THE PROPERTY OWNER'S FAMILY MEMBERS WERE STAYING AT THE COTTAGES WHEN THE CHIMNEY FIRE ERUPTED.
THANKFULY, EVERYONE MADE IT OUT SAFELY.
THE FIRE DAMAGE HAS CREATED AN EYE-SORE. OUR RENTAL RATE REFLECTS THIS REALITY.

Stay steps away from the Michigan lakefront, Grace Cottage is a great family vacation spot or a romantic getaway for the weekend. Opened all year round, the cottage is comfortable, relaxing and will meet all your needs. Enjoy the walk-out deck and patio under a magnificent maple tree. Throw some dinner on the grill or wake-up to a cup of coffee connecting with nature. This cottage has an open kitchen, beautiful master bedroom, & cable. There are 3 TVs in the cottage: one in living room, one in master bedroom and one upstairs.
Groceries, wine store, restaurants, and bakery are only a 10-minute walk along a peaceful tree-lined country road. Grab your loved ones and enjoy this peaceful and playful retreat.

Animals: You will see birds, deer, squirrels, and raccoons

Beach/Swimming: You will walk through the children's play area toward the 26 steps leading toward the public beach access. Use this public access to stroll onto the private stretch of Lake Michigan beach. Swimming is divine on Lake Michigan. Keep in mind that nature keeps us on our toes each year, as the width and water levels vary. There are no fires allowed on the beach due to local ordinances.

Boats: There are no boats that come with this rental. However, if you are interested in Fishing for Steelhead (Trout) you can do so in the St. Joseph River (25 minutes from the cabin) in October, November (Kory at Boozer's Guide Service says that November is the best month), December, March and April. Discounted weekend rates if book a guide in conjunction with your lodging.

Cell phone service: Varies depending on carrier you are welcome to turn on WiFi Calling on your phone. This will enable to send and receive text messages and phone calls.

Grocery Store:Union Pier Market. A gourmet grocery store: Whistle Stop Grocery
Internet: There is basic internet (wi-fi) service here (400bps). Our Internet service is not high speed and does not normally do well with streaming or large files.
Linens: Yes, we provide your sheets and linens. Just like a hotel, the beds will be made for you upon arrival. If you are fussy about the thread count of your sheets, just let me know, and I’ll make sure we leave a bed open for your sheets. We have just the basic sheets, pillows, pillowcases and bath towels.
Parking: Guests of the Grace will be provided two parking spaces next to the cottage. Parking is extremely tight. There is not any street parking. Please be respectful the neighbors and not park in front of any other house but the Grace. The only place to park an extra car would be at the Four Winds Casino, in New Buffalo. While we do not have an on-site parking attendant, please keep the neighbors in mind and park as close together, and as close to the cottages as possible.
Pets: 1 dog welcome! Freshwater Vacation Rentals currently charges $75/per pet for your entire stay. Yes, we do accept dogs, yet we do ask that you please clean up after them both inside and outside the cabin. Plus, if you allow them on the furniture, we do ask that you please bring your own linens/blankets for them to sleep on. Pet food does tend to attract mice, so vigilance is needed.
Privacy: There are cottages right next door.
Snowmobiling: Not the ideal place for snowmobiling. Cannot ride from house to trails and there is no room for parking a trailer. Best to leave those home and enjoy the amazing views of Lake Michigan!
Space: Colonial style home (stairs).
Televisions: 3 Televisions: Living room, master bedroom, and 1 upstairs. Main TV in living room has Roku
Towels: Yes, we provide basic, indoor bath towels. **Please bring your own beach towels. **
Washer and dryer: There is a washer/dryer for guests to use. Laundry soap is provided!
Winery Tours: The closest starting point to the cottage is in New Buffalo, approximately 5-10 minutes south.
~Round Barn Winery: A brewery/distillery and a winery all combined in one trip. Just 14 miles from the Union Pier Cottages, about a 20-minute drive.
~Saint Julian Winery: Enjoy a great glass of wine at this local vineyard.

We enjoyed our stay. Comfy beds and couch. Chairs in living room look nice, but not too comfy. Wanted to let you know the one cookie sheet in the kitchen does not fit in the oven. It is too big. :) Thank you!

Another great week at Grace Cottage! We love the close proximity to the private Beach. Issue on arrival - Delayed our entry, due to previous renter, was addressed by Donna as quickly as she could. Candie addressed our problem with smoke detector, Missing Roku(living room) and coffee pot , promptly! Donna delivered items as promised! I Can not say enough about Donna and her service . She is great !!⭐️⭐️ We hope to stay again next July! Please notify me as soon as Rental opens for reservations! Thanks again for the Freshwater staff ! Michelle B & Family

Great stay at Grace Cottage
We stayed at Grace Cottage, Union Pier, MI for 1 week. The cottage was very cozy, clean, and well-furnished. additional towels and linens (very useful when traveling with children) were provided. The beach was very close and, although a small public beach, on weekdays seems our own private beach. The service from freshwater rental was very responsive to my various questions and inquiries. I loved it and plan to return next summer.

Last Minute
We booked this trip very last minute and it did not disappoint. Anything we needed, the response was quick and efficient. The location was fantastic. We enjoyed our quiet time in the beach before it got busy on the weekend. We would stay here again!

Of course loved the closeness to the beach as we are Lake Michigan lovers!!!! Only thing bad was being sad that “our” lovely Sawyer wasn’t there. Please thank owners for opening Grace for a while this summer tho. Susan

Relaxing, refreshing stay.
I have always loved Union Pier with family and for a personal escape. I always enjoy staying in the Freshwater Rentals! I stayed in the very clean, bright simply furnished Grace Cottage! My stay was comfortable, the walk on the beach perfect, good lighting, nice fireplace and the bed comfy! I gave it 4 stars for some minimal/missing kitchen supplies since I needed to make my own meals....(lacked basic coffee grinder, different size pans, no liquid dish-soap, e.g.) No problem, though....I loved my stay! I would love to stay there again, maybe this winter!

Union Pier is Exquisite
I won’t blather on about the amenities, the location, or the ease of a vacation at Grace cottage. Simply put, it’s the best week of my family’s year, year after year. We arrive, carry all of our stuff down on the day of arrival. We beach and eat and gather with friends on the beautiful private beach…the days pass all too quickly. Before you know it’s time to carry your stuff back up the stairs and leave this little slice of paradise. As long as you don’t try and horn in on ‘our’ week…don’t overthink it; this is the move for a great family vacation.

First off the customer service was fantastic. My main contact was Rebecca and she was phenomenal. She was so kind and made the process of booking so easy and made sure that any requests we had were fulfilled. I also spoke with Andrew and he was great as well. Their customer service not only speaks to the quality of them but of the company. We enjoyed our stay. The Grace was fantastic - so cozy, a lot of light and we absolutely loved the fireplace. Great place for a weekend getaway!

Another perfect week in Union Pier
Grace Cottage is perfect for our family of four. This year we let each child bring a friend making us a party of 6....and it was our best visit ever. Two rooms upstairs with two twins each met the kids needs; the downstairs Queen was just right for me and my wife. We’re accustomed to the patterns of a beach vacation at Grace Cottage: lug your stuff down to our private beach on day one...leave it there for the week...haul it back up on getaway day. Very easy - and what I’ve found - quite a rare setup. The private beach sign is somewhat obscure and there are the occasional interlopers...but nothing to get worked up about. On 4th of July weekend the Miller Beach public space was packed hoof to jowl while we enjoyed plenty of elbow room in our slice of heaven. As long as you don’t try to take our sacred weeks in UP, I couldn’t recommend Grace Cottage any more .

Great Location
We loved the cottage and close proximity to beach!! A negative would be the continuous foot traffic from the larger cottages, through our private patio. Maybe could install decorative fencing to deter ?

Charming, wooded cottage by beach
The Grace Cottage is a perfect beach treat that makes you feel secluded with all the trees nearby, but also among other vacationers! Inside, it is quaint and cute--perfect for a girls weekend, or small family. To get to the private beach you can go down a number of stairs or walk a bit extra to the public beach access--just depends on your health and ability to climb stairs! The vacation rentals also seem to share the decks that overlook the water. A nice surprise! Recommend if you are in need of some lake time!

Wonderful accommodations located right next to the best beach in Union Pier. The Grace Cottage has all the amenities one could ask for and made our extended stay so enjoyable. Can’t wait to come back.

The folks at Freshwater couldn’t be friendlier. Family members were on the fence about coming, so I had to call Freshwater a few times to arrange quotes and book the houses. Every call and email was pleasant. The customer service was phenomenal!

It's our two best weeks of the year
We have been renting at Union Pier for 12 years and have fallen in love with the Michigan beach lifestyle. It’s a great spot! Since you’re on the Western edge of the Eastern time zone, the days are long. It’s light until 10 pm. With that, you can never give up on a day here. We’ve had some of our best beach days following rainy mornings or even early afternoons. Tabscott We’ve stayed in all four of the Union Pier cottages, and I’m hesitant to tell you which cabin we rent as we don’t need additional challengers to “our” weeks, but, we like the Grace. It’s not lakefront - but, it is at a price point that allows us to stay for two weeks rather than one. We can hear the surf on big wave days and can be on the path to the beach in 15 seconds from the front door. It’s perfect for us and may be perfect for you on weeks when we’re not there:.)

Great vacation!
Great vacation!! The beach is really steps away. I was very pleased that everything was there for us to use like laundry detergent, dish soap, hand soap, toilet paper, paper towel, etc. Some homeaways we've stayed at only provided a certain amount and after that it's on you. Kitchen was well stocked. The bakery and market were a few blocks away. We brought our bikes and infant seat and went on family bike rides! If I could change anything about this stay it would be: 1. The dishwasher is small (but hey we barely had to do the dishes). 2. Not small child friendly. No gate for the steep stairs or fireplace, no plastic plates, cups, or utensils. We had to keep a very very close eye on our smallest. 3. The TVs in the master and upstairs bedroom did not work (or I wasn't doing something right to get them to work haha). That wasn't a huge deal because the main TV worked, and we were here for the beach! 4. I wish there was a hose or something to rinse off outside after we went to the beach. We tried our best, but with 2 kids and a hubby it was hard not to track sand inside. Overall, it was a really good vacation (minus the one day of rain). But we want to come back with extended family and stay in one of the larger cottages :) Thank you again for letting us use this lovely home!!

Fantastic!
Perfect location, +/- 2 minute walk to feet in the sand. Clean beach with fine sand and not a lot of rocks/debris. Our beach days were not crowded at all so plenty of room to spread out. The house is lovely, just as described with clean, comfortable beds and everything we needed. The grill took a bit to get hot enough to really cook anything so maybe checking into a new grill would be my only suggestion. There is a little swing/playset next to the cottage which our kids really enjoyed. Quick responses to any questions we had. Wished we could have stayed longer and would DEFINITELY stay here again!! :). Milda’s market close by had good sandwiches, and a tasty cranberry orange scone.

Charming Cottage
My sisters and I really enjoyed our stay! We enjoyed fires at night, the lake was beautiful and a short walk. St. Joe's is a short drive and cute little town. Would definitely come back! **my only criticism--you need a new microwave! I tried to melt some butter and after 2 minutes the stick was still rock hard! Thank you!

Nice Place
Clean and comfortable cottage. Quality beds, pillows, and bedding. Fast internet. Well stocked kitchen. My only negative is the pine tree drips pitch in the parking area for this cottage. This may only be an early spring problem. (First week of April.) With all this said, I would stay again and recommend this cottage to a friend. My stay: 10 days at $66/day. Thanks.

I had a very nice stay. It was comfortable, and had everything I needed. I was disappointed I couldn’ t walk the dog on the beach, but we had some very nice walks. I especially liked all the trees and homes and resorts.

GREAT GETAWAY COTTAGE
A small group of ladies from work rented this as our first ladies weekend getaway. We had a wonderful time. The Cottage was in a great location to the beach, to New Buffalo shops, and the casino. We had no complaints with the cleanliness of the cottage, everything was very clean and comfortable

Weekend Getaway with Friends
We had 5 adults (2 couples and a single) and this was a great location! The directions on the email are perfect, kit the neighborhood is dark, so pay close attention if arriving after daylight! Lots of great restaurants near by! We had 2 minor issues and I received an immediate response from Kara handling both!!! The kitchen is small, but had the basic necessities for us to fix breakfast. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and felt the price was very fair!

Nice housekeeping cabin. We stayed two extra nights.
No view, but close to beach access. Cozy. Clean. Comfortable bed; we slept very well. The kitchen was functional, although mildly undersupplied with items such as soup or cereal bowls or non-serrated knives. Overall, it was fine for non-complex meals. The outdoor grill worked well. We enjoyed nice patio and deck.

This place was great! It is a few steps from the beach, easy to get in and out of, and easy to park at. Great for 6 friends getting together. Location is great, because it's close to New Buffalo but far enough to be more quaint. The private beach was a great plus, and the neighborhood was quite pretty. We walked over to The Whistle Stop a few times and really enjoyed our stay. Hopefully, we will be able to visit once again!

Grace cottage was just a few feet away from the beach! The front patio was a beautiful place to start your morning off reading the newspaper with a hot cup of coffee. A truly relaxing enjoyable location. We brought my parents and family here to celebrate my 94 year old fathers birthday. Truly memorable we will be back next year. The toiletries that you all provided was a very nice touch.

My girlfriends and I enjoyed our stay at Grace cottage. It was clean and well-equipped. The only negative feedback we would have is that the laminate floor in the kitchen was really slippery, like it had somehow gotten furniture polish on it. We almost fell multiple times. Also, it would be a good idea to have a small coffee table in the living room to have somewhere to set drinks or to use as an ottoman to prop one's feet on. Also, the batteries in in the bedroom remote for the TV were dead, so I borrowed the batteries from the living room remote when I needed to use the TV in the bedroom. I couldn't find any AA batteries in the cottage. Therefore, the living room remote now needs new batteries. FYI. Thanks for your hospitality! We had a great time!

Again, we had an amazing time at Grace cottage. It’s definitely an unbeatable value in the Union pier area. You literally just need a toothbrush and some clothes and you will find everything else you need already there!

Great place for our winter getaway!
We used this cottage for a ladies’ weekend. It was wonderful! There were only two things we could possibly think to suggest. One is to either supply (or suggest that guests bring) Duraflame logs. There was no kindling available to start a fire in the fireplace. We had to get some Duraflame logs at the market. The other idea is a coffee table...there isn’t one. But really, we had to work pretty hard to come up with those suggestions! We would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful getaway

Girls Get away weekend
The house was perfect for our needs. We had an issue with down stairs bathroom, but one phone call and it was immediately taken care of. Watched a beautiful sunset on the lake in the back yard. It was very clean and easy to find and located very close to shopping, casino, and the beach.

Lovely Location!
Not much of a yard and very close to other cottages, but LOVED being so close to the beach! Clean and comfy and enjoyed using the fireplace! A bonus that I've seen in other rentals is having a few board games, DVD's, and maybe some books for guests to enjoy while they stay...

September on the Lake
I was one of the three friends (from 3rd grade) celebrating our 70th birthday. We had spectacular weather. . .the lake and sunsets did not disappoint! Hard to go wrong. The cottage was ample, clean and fairly well stocked (although clean towels were hiding in the dryer. . .we didn't find them until the day we left). If I were to revisit, I'd be sure to stop in New Buffalo for groceries (Union Pier has bare essentials within walking distance). The cottages are quite close together, with limited parking. . .I'm not sure what high season would be like, but I can highly recommend mid-September.

Happy family times!
We loved the ease and convenience of staying at Grace Cottage. We could step outside and be at the beach in a few moments. The staff (Cara, Janelle, Kari, Joan, Kathleen) and fix it up/cleaning personnel (Sonia and Sarah) were terrific and very helpful if we had any questions or needed anything. You could walk to the Union Pier stores and to delicious gelato and other restaurants. It felt like a beach house. Everything you need, but not too much where you were afraid to touch or use anything. (and you do not need to clean before you leave like other places in the area.) As they said, it is your vacation, leave the work to us! They were very accommodating. See you soon!!!

Family Fun!
We brought our three and four year old kids for a week long summer vacation and came from NW Chicago Suburbs. It was a quick drive, the house was perfect and the service Freshwater Vacations provided was five stars. Responsive to requests but more than anything, their welcoming and kindness made us feel like part of their family, too! Will return to rent from them, no doubt!

Best week of the year
We've been staying at Grace Cottage for 10 years running. Bright cottage with everything you need and steps from the beach. The kids love the playset! Our best memories are of Union Pier.

Cute Little Place for Friends
I would have gave this house 5 stars but I slept in the other house. Its a nice size for 8 people and everyone fit perfectly. Large kitchen, rooms and bathrooms for 8 girls! It was great. The parking is a little tight at times but you can make it work. I would stay here again with a large group.

A Great Time
The only glitch was with the cable, we were there to have a Kentucky Derby Party and without the television it would have been a problem.Luckily, the problems were resolved one day later via Joan from the management office and finally the cable company. The cottage was just enough for 6 women but I would suggest more silverware. Overall we enjoyed the cottage and would come back again.
