This beautiful cottage, once owned by local artist Alice Reynolds, sits on the shore of beautiful Lake Superior.
You will love this 2-bedroom cottage with its newly remodeled interior. This cottage has 1 bathroom with shower and a private outdoor shower. There is a gas grill for your convenience as well as a fully equipped open concept kitchen.
There are many activities to enjoy around the area such as hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, exploring the area beaches, hunting for agates and Yooperlites.
There are also times that you may want to explore the old copper mines, take a ride up Brockway Mountain, or Copper Harbor... all just a short drive away.
If you choose to stay with us during the late summer, please feel free to pick berries from our Thimbleberry bushes. Yum!
So, tell the office you’re on vacation, come to the UP and enjoy our little slice of heaven.
Keep in mind you are in the uppermost part of Michigan and Wi-Fi can be spotty, but that’s what vacation is all about right?

Air Conditioning: There is no air conditioning, but each bedroom has ceiling fans, and a great breeze generally comes off of the lake.
ATVs: We are sorry, there are No ATVs allowed on the property.
Animals: No pets are allowed, although there are a number of squirrels, eagles, fox, bear, deer, wolves and a variety of birds.
Bathrooms:
There is 1 main bathroom on the 1st floor.
There is a private outdoor shower with hot and cold water.
Beach /Swimming: Swimming is doable in front of the cottage, but the shore is a bit rocky.
There is a beautiful public beach at the Great Sand Bay just west of the cottage and there are a few public beaches on the way to and in Eagle River.
Bedroom Configurations:
Bedroom #1 main floor 1 King Bed.
Bedroom #2 main floor 1 Queen Bed.
Bugs: Mayflies can be intense toward the end of May/beginning of June.
Cell phone service: Verizon is generally pretty good! Up in Copper Harbor you will not get any service.
Cell phone service can be frustrating at times …but you are on vacation!

*Pictured Rocks: About 5 hours
*Marquette: Approximately 2 ½ hours
*Calumet: 30 minutes.
*Copper Harbor: 15 minutes.
*Mackinaw Bridge: Approximately 5 hours.
Dock: There is no dock on this property. The shoreline is quite rocky, but walkable.
Drinking water: The water is well water, that is run through a purifier and is safe for human consumption.
Drugs/Smoking/Fireworks: Freshwater does not permit illegal drugs of any kind on the property. Due to the location of the property smoking is prohibited around the home and strictly prohibited in the home. Fireworks are prohibited at a Freshwater location for the safety of all persons in and around the property.
Fireplace: There is a fireplace within the cottage, however it is a non-working fireplace and cannot be used.
Fire-Pit: Yes there is a fire-pit for your use
Fishing: Please bring your own poles and tackle as there is none provided by this property. Also, in order to fish in Michigan lakes, one is required to obtain a fishing license.
Grill: A propane grill is provided.
Grocery store: The General Phoenix Store is approximately 15 minutes away (milk, eggs, beer, wine, ice).
Hiking Trails: There are miles of beautiful hiking trails located just south of the cottage. All are very well marked and accessible from the Great Sand Bay parking lot just west of the cottage.
Internet: Spotty, at best. Please do not plan on using Internet during your stay. As of late, it has been more unreliable than usual as the house is at the end of the service area.
Linens: Yes, we provide basic bedding, sheets and linens. Just like a hotel the beds will be made for you before arrival. If you are fussy about thread count, please let us know, and we will leave a bed open for your sheets. We have basic sheets, pillowcases and bath towels.
Marina: A Marina can be found in Eagle Harbor approximately 3 miles down the road.
Parking: There is enough room for 3 to 4 cars to be parked.
Pets: There are NO pets allowed at this property. Enjoy the allergen free space
Privacy: There are homes nearby.
Stairs: Since this is an older home, the steps maybe steeper than some are accustomed to. Please use caution. This may not be the ideal place for guests with mobility challenges.
Star Gazing: It probably gets darker up here than what you are used to at home, this gives you an awesome opportunity to view the stars on a clear night.
Snowmobiles: No snowmobiles are allowed on the property.
Space: This is a single-story home with a Michigan basement. (Stone foundation). The basement has very low ceiling beams.
Television: There is one smart TV in the living area.
Towels: Yes, we provide towels! It’s always good to bring extra though.
Washer and Dryer: There is a washer and dryer located in the basement. Laundry soap is provided. A reminder to watch your head with the low ceiling beams.

This house was amazing!!! The views were spectacular!! We loved watching the waves of Lake Superior outside the window. This location was great!! The house itself was very clean and very well stocked with everything that you would need. The house also had a log book from previous people and it was very helpful. IF you venture beyond this beautiful location the sunset at “ Great Sand Bay” was great!!! Fresh Water Vacation Resnais did NOT disappoint

Do we have to leave???
Superb cabin! Sublime views! Stellar sunsets! Took away our blues! It was kind of last minute. Yet we’re so glad we caught it! We loved it there so much, we went ahead and bought it!

Perfect Eagle Harbor
Loved it here! Quiet, comfortable, including the mattress. Especially impressed with the kitchen, including sharp knives. Sunrises and sunsets are glorious, with waves on the rocks. Looks a little dark and musty in the online pics. NO!! It's lovely and perfectly clean. One of the best places we've stayed.

Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sunrise Cottage, even better this year with the aid of a recliner chair. (I suggested this last year, as it helps me and my miserable back sleep, and the owners provided one. Many thanks for that!) As usual the cottage was perfectly clean and very well stocked with necessities. It is beautifully positioned for day trips around the Keweenaw. And sunsets are wonderful.

Finally!
For years We come to Keweenaw each autumn for a week or two and, until now, have not found a place to return to. Now we have. Location on the water is perfect; we enjoyed the range from crashing waves to lapping waves, plus spectacular sunsets. It is also conveniently located for day trips exploring all of Keweenaw. Now, Unlike most rentals, Sunrise Cottage is provisioned abundantly; the kitchen in particular has all the cookery and crockery one could need instead of the frequent sparseness of 4 plates, 4 cups, 4 of each (mismatched) silverware, etc. This is a most comfortable place and we hope to return next autumn.

It seems like everything was thought of to make our stay memorable!
This has been the most amazing weekend! This was our very first trip to the UP. It definitely will NOT be our last! Sunrise Cove is in the perfect location. I don't know that I have ever been more relaxed! Sitting on the deck listening to the waves crash against the rocks was so soothing. We enjoyed getting up early to watch the sunrise right from the deck. We got out on the rocks a bit to watch the sunsets too. Moments like those make you thankful to appreciative of God's beautiful creation.
We did one day of site seeing. We stopped at the cafe in Eagle Harbor for ice cream and found out the people behind the counter, running the cafte, were from our hometown! What a small world! We found everyone to be so friendly and kind.
Of all the vacation homes we have stayed at I have to say Sunrise Cove has been the best so far! It is stocked so well! Definitely the cleanest and most comfortable place we have been. We checked out the outdoor shower on the warm day! It was very spacious! A nice addition to the home! And on the rainy night we played cards late into the night! It seems like you have thought of everything to make our stay here quite memorable! We will definitely be back.

We have stayed all over the world at vacation rentals, and this has to be top 5!
The view, the tranquility, the quality of the cottage, and the list goes on. It is hard to leave- wish we had booked our entire UP vacation here..

Perfect home base for exploring
Thank you for your comfortable, airy, perfectly situated house. We used it as home base for hiking and rock hunting at Black Creek Nature Sanctuary, Great Sand Bay, and Gratiot County Park. Didn't see any eagles, but lots of ducks, geese, a sandhill crane, and seagulls. Always enjoy being anywhere we can watch light and lake interact

Excellent!
Where do I start! What a great place to decompress and unplug! Absolutely beautiful! The cabin was so cozy and clean. The kitchen had everything you would possibly need. The deck on the back of the cabin was a great place to be as the sun was rising and setting while listening the water coming ashore. We traveled on our motorcycles with this cabin being 'homebase'. We explored waterfalls, State Parks and enjoyed the excellent roads. Being as we were on motorcycles; we were thinking how great it would have been if a grocery delivery service was available. LOL Thank you for providing this perfect place!

This was by far the best vacation rental we have ever been at. It was stocked better than any other home we have rented. It was so clean and well taken care of. And the location is absolutely amazing!!! We will definitely be back!!

Sunrise Cove in October
We had the pleasure of staying at Sunrise Cove in October, during the peak of Northern Michigan's fall beauty, and we couldn't of enjoyed ourselves more. The drive alone was beautiful, but we absolutely loved walking the rocky shoreline at the cottage and taking in the stunning views! The cottage had everything we could possibly need. The kitchen was extremely well stocked, they even had spices (which was great since we forgot to bring those). We grilled up some steaks on the (provided) outdoor grill and enjoyed our dinner looking out the large dinning room windows watching the sunset and the waves crash on the rocks. We also enjoyed coffee on the deck each morning overlooking Lake Superior. The beds were very comfortable, which is something I'm always worried about when traveling. We also took advantage of the great location and spent some time at Eagle River Falls, hiking the nearby trails, and spent an afternoon driving over Brockway Mountain Pass and exploring the nearby town of Copper Harbor. We also enjoyed a delicious dinner out at Eagle Harbor Inn, that is just a few miles from the cottage. This is a great place to unplug, relax and recharge, yet also offers plenty of outdoor adventure. Overall I would give Sunrise Cove 5 stars! In fact we have already booked another visit!
