This cottage was originally a one-room schoolhouse that was moved from a nearby mine. A bedroom, bathroom and a kitchen were then added on, along with a log front porch (covered), which offers a magnificent view of Eagle Harbor. There is one bedroom with a queen bed. This cottage has a FULL kitchen and a living room area. The best view of the water is from this cozy cottage!
A message from the owners:
As a child, I spent my summers enjoying the relaxed lifestyle the small community of Eagle Harbor offered. As an adult, I brought my family up to enjoy the community as often as I could. I am so excited to be able to share a piece of that with others.
Our 3 cottages were part of the original Lake Breeze Resort in Eagle Harbor. Built in the 1920’s, this resort had 15 cottages that sat on “The Hill” overlooking the harbor. As time went on, some of the cottages were sold, and we now find ourselves lucky enough to own three.
Frequently Asked Questions:
A/C: There is no central air. A cross-breeze usually keeps it a nice temperature.
ATV’s: It's best to leave those at home. There are no trails close by and there is no available parking for a trailer.
Bathroom: 1- 3/4 bathroom (shower only/no tub).
Beach: The beach is just a short walk across the street. This beautiful sandy beach is perfect for swimming and even has an old-fashioned slide!
Bedroom: Bedroom #1-1 Queen bed
Bugs: Typical mosquitos, flies, ants.
Cable: Yes, there is cable!
Cell phone service: Cell phone service is generally unreliable in the U.P., though we have found that Verizon works well here.
Fire pit: There are NO fires allowed at the cottages, but fire rings are provided on the public beach. You can make your own fire with driftwood and/or logs others may have left behind. You can also purchase wood bundles at Fletchy's restaurant on the south end of the beach. Please contain all fires in the fire rings provided.
Gas Stations: There are no gas stations in Eagle Harbor. The closest gas is the Phoenix Store located 8 miles southwest at the intersection of US-41 and M-26. There is also the Copper Harbor Fuel Stop located 14 miles east on M-26 in Copper Harbor.
Grill: One gas grill and one charcoal grill are available in the common area between cottages. Charcoal, lighter fluid, and utensils are available for guest use.
Grocery: The “Genny” Gas Light General Store in Copper Harbor has limited grocery items as well as convenience snacks, camping gear and local souvenirs. The closest complete grocery store is Pat’s IGA in Calumet.
Internet: Yes, there is Wi-Fi. It is shared by all 4 cottages, therefore, it is intermittent at times. It is very basic Wi-Fi.
Parking: Very limited, 1 car or truck. One parking space along the East Side (Closest to the lighthouse) of the cottage. Please check with us in advance if additional parking is needed offsite.
Pets: Pets are not allowed inside Harbor View or on its porch. We do allow pets in the other cottages and in the common area between cottages.
Picnic Table: There is one picnic table available for guest use in the common area between cottages.
Playground: In the middle of the village, there was an old fire station turned into a huge playground for kids with picnic tables and grills.
Privacy: All four cottages are in close proximity on the same lot. Outdoor privacy is limited.
Smoking: Smoking or vaping is prohibited in any of the cottages or anywhere on the property.
Space: 1 story, cozy feeling home.
Swimming: Swimming is definitely recommended at the beautiful beach down the way.
Towels: Yes, we provide bath towels. Please bring your own beach towels.
TV’s: There are new TV’s in every cottage.
Washer & Dryer: There are no laundry facilities for guest use on site. There are two laundromats in Calumet(30 miles).

Eagle Harbor Attractions:
Brockway Mountain Drive - Four miles east of Eagle Harbor on M-26 is the west end of Brockway Mountain Drive which will take you to the top of the mountain for picturesque views of Lake Superior and the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Eagle Harbor Inn - Wonderful local restaurant for Lunch or Dinner where you an find delicious fish, steak, pizza or a full bar including wonderful craft beers!
Fletchy's Otter Belly Inn - Serving specialty coffees and teas, breakfast pastries, breakfasts and sandwiches for lunch and seasonally ice cream cones.
Gift Shop- The Agate Shop – A gem and gift shop located a short walk from the cottage. Located on M-26 at the corner of Front and North Streets.
Hiking- The George Hite Dunes and Marsh Preserve and Mt. Baldy trailheads are both a short walk from the cottage
Lighthouse Complex- Located adjacent to the property is the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse Complex operated by the Keweenaw County Historical Society. The site includes tours of the working lighthouse and associated buildings with many historical exhibits. There is also an observation deck sitting above Lake Superior which offers spectacular views of passing ships, sunrises and sunsets as well as countless stars on a clear night. It is also an excellent location to watch the northern lights.
The Jampot- (located 5 miles away along M26 toward Eagle River) Bakery affiliated with a monastery selling house-roasted coffee & very good bakery items.
Great Sand Bay- Three miles west of Eagle Harbor, Great Sand Bay sits at the bottom of sandy dunes. There is plenty of parking across the highway and steps down to the beach. There is no lifeguard on duty, but it is a good swimming beach
Copper Harbor Attractions:
Copper Harbor is a town that is a short scenic 14 miles away from the cottages. In Copper Harbor you can find some very unique places that are a must see while you are in town!
Brockway Mountain Drive - On the west edge of Copper Harbor is the east end of Brockway Mountain Drive which will take you to the top of the mountain for picturesque views of Lake Superior and the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Estivant Pines - Enjoy a 2.5 miles of hiking trails through 300-year-old pines that have grown over 125 feet tall.
Fort Wilkins State Park- Visit a 1840’s era military fort on the shore of Lake Fanny Hooe.
The Brick House- This is a micro brewery where you can find all of the finest craft beers in the area!
Into the Woods- 18 hole miniature golf course
The Harbor Haus- Authentic German food that you must try!
Jamsen's Fish Market & Bakery- Freshly baked goods are produced here every day.
The “Genny” Gas Light General Store - Limited grocery items as well as convenience snacks, camping gear and local souvenirs.
Mountain Biking- Some of the best mountain biking trails in the Midwest can be found in and around the Copper Harbor area. Rentals available.
Other Area Attractions:
In the Calumet area you can visit The Calumet Theatre, Keweenaw National Historical Park Visitor's Center, Laurium Manor Inn, Calumet Art District, to name a few.
In the Hancock/Houghton area you can visit the Quincy Mine, A.E Seaman Mineral Museum, History of Hockey Museum, Finnish American Heritage Center among others.

We had a lovely time in Eagle Harbor and the Copper Harbor area! The cottage was very quaint, clean and comfortable. Even the internet worked great! We had everything we needed and are looking forward to a return visit in the future!

Amazing place
The Keweenaw is a magical place year-round. The cabin is the perfect place to put your feet up at the end of the day. It is clean, comfortable, and has a great view of the lake.

Quaint cozy stay! Fantastic location!
We LOVED the little school house! So much beauty around every bend of the Upper Peninsula. This school house is situated in a great location. Pretty views from the front and a VERY short walk to the lighthouse and scenic overlook. We spent our evenings star gazing! Who knew there were so many stars in the sky!!!! The only complaint is the shower, it sprays out into the floor - maybe a new shower head would solve the problem?! Regardless, we will be back! Such a fantastic getaway for our anniversary!

Perfect!!
There is no place in Michigan quite like the Keweenaw. For the last 20+ years this has been where I go to truly get away from it all and recharge. This get away was much needed this year. The host was above and beyond accommodating. The kindness that she displayed will never be forgotten. The Schoolhouse cabin was perfect for two. It has great views of the lake and is very clean and well maintained. I would highly recommend Freshwater Vacation Rentals to all and will be booking again!!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay. I only wished it was longer. We liked that everything was within walking distance. The lighthouse, the restaurant and gift shop. The cottage was perfect. Very quiet. We will use your service again.

Beautiful location. Walking distance to the lighthouse and Lake Superior. Only draw back is the hot water was hit and miss.

We enjoyed this cottage very much! It was cozy, clean, and peaceful. It had everything we needed. Lots of kitchen gadgets. We loved drinking our coffee on the front porch and viewing the lake.

Schoolhouse Cabin in Eagle Harbor, MI.
I have nothing but praise for the rental company and the property. Their response was prompt. The check-in and check-out process was easy and straight forward. Fantastic! Very satisfied.
Cottage was clean and comfortable. Everything we needed was there. Quiet (most of the time), and scenery was beautiful. Close to beach and a decent restaurant within walking distance. Would definitely recommend.

Schooolhouse Cottage
This unit is in a nice location - close to the lighthouse and lighthouse museum. The unit is a nice size, well kept, and comfortable for two people. It appears to be the largest cabin of the site. We would stay there again.

As good as it gets for under $200/night!!!
The mechanical is is perfect shape and nicely decorated with excellence. There is nothing that could be done to make this more comfortable. Clean, no bugs, screens in all four directions and lots of little fans. Hot water, WIFI and every imaginable kitchen gadget.

A perfect place and location. Kitchen was great to have during our 6 day stay. We had weather from 80 degrees to 40 and rain, good to know we had a warm and dry place to return to

What a lovely place to stay, again!
Our 2017 stay was so pleasing that we repeated this year. Schoolhouse is excellent for two; well-equipped Kitchen with appliances, cooking implements and supplies, 1 minute walk to the Freshwater laundry and trash bins, Queen bed and a small but well organized bathroom. Great housekeeping with everything clean; crisp linens and plenty of towels, etc.

Nice location for exploring the Keeweenaw Peninsula
The Schoolhouse cottage is in a nice location in Eagle Harbor. Steps away from the light house, a view of the harbor and beach out the front window. The Eagle Harbor Inn / Restaurant is a short walk down the street. You are within 30 to 45 minutes from the attractions in the Keeweenaw. The cottage has a living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. It was clean and is nicely furnished.

Peaceful Cottage in stunning location
This was our second vacation stay at the Schoolhouse Cottage. The front porch has a beautiful water view. The cottage is clean and so well equipped. Can't say enough good things about this place we have come to love!

Eagle Harbor - My Happy Place
I absolutely love Eagle Harbor and the Schoolhouse Cottage was a wonderful little cottage to stay in while there. You can't beat the fantastic view from the porch and it's perfect location near the lighthouse. It was clean and had all that you need for a comfortable stay. The owners were very accommodating and friendly. Can't wait to go back!

adorable cottage steps away from the beach and sunset views and a short drive from great sights
This cottage was exactly what we were looking for on a recent trip for just my wife and I. It is a short drive from Copper Harbor, Ft. Wilkins, Brockaway Mountain and more. Each night we walked 300 yards to the viewing platform by the lighthouse to watch the sun set over Lake Superior - awesome! Without a doubt we'd stay here again.

The booking was easy. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed. Attention to detail to make a guests experience comfortable was best. The location was fabulous. It felt like home. Owners were great.

good time!
Loved this little cabin. Perfect location and setting. Only wish the couches were a little more comfortable for sitting in at night. Really enjoyed our stay.

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE
Perfect cottage with a beautiful view. Great area to go back and forth and check out the land. Wonderful meals at eagle harbor motel two blocks away. Highly recommended. Clean and cozy with everything we needed.

Cozy, Comfortable
Schoolhouse Cottage was a cute little place. Had everything we needed. Quiet, cozy and a great view of Eagle Harbor Bay. There is a very nice restaurant within a couple blocks of the cottage. A word of caution, my OnStar took me to Copper Harbor down some dirt road. Be sure to go to Eagle Harbor as the owners instructions tell you. It is on the west side of the bay.

Every bit as good as described and pictured. Exceptionally equipped kitchen. Hope to rent Schoolhouse (or Doc's) next year, perhaps for a longer stay. Caretakers Barb and Alan are super! They care equally for the property and for the guests; very conscientious.

Spontaneity Rewarded!
My mother and I were planning on camping up near Eagle Harbor but were detered by the relentless flies. After some online digging, we came across the Schoolhouse listing and fell in love. It was a perfect spot for Keweenaw adventuring and so close to the Jampot. The accommodations were cute and clean and the customer service was so helpful, even as we arrived after hours. Thanks so much!
