The Hemlock House is a comfortable ½ duplex on the small village of South Republic. Enjoy 925 feet of private space. The walls are thin, and at times you can hear the next-door neighbors with who you share a wall in this duplex.    Great for the visiting friends/family in town, a budget vacation rental to hunt or explore the Upper Peninsula, the visiting professional or someone going through a life change.

This cottage has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom.  Windows overlook the wide, though generally quiet Hemlock Street. There is a lot with solely trees across the lot. There are many easy walking or biking trails, so it is within easy reach to feel connected to nature. The Iron Ore Trailhead is an easy 3 miles North, where you can enjoy a trip into Marquette.

The Hemlock House provides a comfortable living room space. You’ll have  plenty of space to spread out and enjoy. The 3 bedrooms are all upstairs and small. There is 1 Queen bed, 1 Full bed and 1 Twin bunk beds.

There is a washer and dryer downstairs for your sole use during your stay! The washer/dryer is directly across from the only bathroom (main floor).  It’s so nice to be able to warm up your towels for when you get out of the bath/shower.

There is a full, comfortable-sized bathroom on the main floor. Adjacent to the kitchen and washer/dryer.  It has a tub/shower, toilet and sink. It is NOT handicap accessible, as there is a significant step between the bathtub and the floor.

Launch: If you are bringing your own boat, there is a beautiful public boat launch off of MI-95, next to the sandy swimming area in Republic (North).

Cable TV: Yes, there is cable TV with an old school large TV.

Cell phone service: Cell service is spotty in the Upper Peninsula.  Still, we have found that Sprint seems to provide the best service in the area.  AT&T & Verizon has been pretty good as well.

Coffee Pot: Yes, we have a basic drip coffee pot at the cabin. At times there is coffee available, yet we highly recommend that you bring your own. We do not inventory the coffee.

Distances:
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore:  2 hours and 20 minutes. (109 miles)
Tahquamenon Falls State Park: 3 hours and 20 minutes.(177 miles)
Mackinac Bridge: 4 hours. (215 miles)

Fishing: Great fishing on the Michigamme River. Enjoy the Republic Fishing Derby in July!

Fishing License:  You can purchase your fishing license online.

Fishing poles: Please bring your own poles!

Grill: - We have an outdoor electric grill for your use.

Grocery Store/ Supplies: The closest, full-sized grocery store is about a 25 hour drive from the cabin, Ishpeming.  It is the IGA Jubilee right on U.S 41.  If you are driving from Wisconsin/Chicago, the last grocery store is in Iron Mountain.

There is a little hardware store with some simple groceries a few blocks walking distance down the street from the Hemlock House.  While there isn’t normally  large selection, and the prices are convenience-store equivalent, the customer service is top-notch.

There is a larger convenience store/BP Gas station on the corner of U.S. 41 and MI-95, about 20 minutes North of the cabin.

Heating source:  Not only do we have the fire place, yet we do have forced air heat. The Horseshoe Lake Cabin is much more like a house. It is not a rustic cabin.
Hunting: We do not allow hunting or shooting (even just at targets) of any kind on the 20 private acres, or the adjoining private property.

Internet: Not yet. If this is a deal breaker for you, please ask.  Enjoy this time to unplug for a little while.

For the best food and closest Wi-Fi in the area, check out the Silver Lake Restaurant (906) 542-7195
N13195 Highway M95, Channing (within 10 miles south of the cottage, on the west side of M-95).

Kitchen Supplies:The basic kitchen supplies are at the cabin. Basic dishes, pots/pans, glasses, cups, etc. are provided, including basic kitchen spices. Still, we do not inventory these items, so if there is something specific you would like, we highly recommend bringing it.

Linens: Yes, we provide your sheets. Just like a hotel, the beds will be made for you upon arrival. If you are fussy about the thread count of your sheets, just let me know, and I’ll make sure we leave a bed open for your sheets. We have just the basic sheets, pillows, pillow cases.

Parking: Plenty of parking on the street and 1 space in the driveway.

Pet: Dog are allowed. Please keep in mind that there is NOT a fenced yard out back. The neighbors share a wall too. We are very respectful of our neighbors and ask that only dogs whose barking is limited be welcomed.

Freshwater Vacation Rentals currently charges $50/per pet. It  is your responsibility to watch and clean up after your pet.

Privacy: Only inside the ½ duplex. On the other side is ample space which is very quiet. It is similar to apartment living where you share a wall with your neighbor.

Towels: Yes, we provide towels. It’s always good to bring extra beach towels.

Washer/Dryer: Yes!

Wood: Bring your own. It can also be bought at the local grocer.
