Perfect for us, someone forgot to heat the lake, literally had ice on the surface(haha). A snow shovel was the only thing missing! All kitchen items were available including seasonings and cleaning supplies, and birthday candles. Hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion was supplied.

Family time
The cottage was perfect for our family of 5. We had an issue with our fan and it was replaced within hours. The decor was nice, clean, and comfortable! A couple improvements I would suggest. Having 2 kayaks per cabin is better. We were able to speak with the other renters to borrow there’s but if they want to use it that is kind of awkward. Also, the beach needed to be raked several times during our visit. So maybe keep a beach take nearby. Also spraying for bugs. We couldn’t have a fire because it was way too buggy. Totally understand that it’s Michigan and we get bugs but you can combat that a little. We would stay again at this property but the improvements would make it much better!

FVR RESPONSE:

Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful review of the Sunset Cottage, Angie! We're so glad the cottage was a great fit for your family during your time in Houghton Lake, and that our team was able to respond quickly when the fan needed replacing. It’s great to hear you found the space clean, comfortable, and well-decorated.
We also really appreciate your suggestions. We're always looking for ways to improve, and feedback like yours is incredibly helpful. We'll definitely take a closer look at kayak availability and see what can be done to make access more convenient for each cabin. Your notes about beach upkeep and bug control are also noted—you're absolutely right, Michigan summers bring bugs, but we agree that proactive steps can make a big difference.
We’re glad to hear you’d stay with us again, and we hope next time it’s even better. Thanks again for staying with us and for sharing your experience! -Jessica FVR
