Here is where the largest fresh waters on earth create a peninsula called the Keweenaw. Michigan’s state motto reads: “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you.” According to many folks, the Keweenaw is in fact the crown jewel of all the peninsulas in the Great Lakes State.

Although it is called a peninsula, the Keweenaw is technically an island. The Portage Canal divides the peninsula and may only be crossed by vehicles across one bridge that connects the sister cities of Houghton & Hancock, about 50-miles south of Copper Harbor. Keweenaw is the Ojibwa word for “to portage”, and the area is named for the short-cut the natives used in the early days when paddling birch bark canoes.

Present day, the Keweenaw is a unique blend of the old and the new. While its history is an undeniable presence throughout the region, entrepreneurs have managed to find their niche and have established themselves and their businesses, which brings new ideas and a fresh twist on some regards.

A piece of heaven....
This cabin was everything, plus more of what we were hoping for. It was located right on Lake Superior and was extremely peaceful. The owners had everything one could possibly ask for including even a Yooperlight which we found extremely helpful as my daughter searched for the perfect rocks. The cabin was very clean and tastefully decorated. They have a lovely area to sit right by the water that even had a fire pit. There is nothing a family could possibly ask for when looking for somewhere wonderful to stay. Communication was excellent as far as directions and changing the passcode. Everything was exactly as we were told it would be. Excellent home owner/excellent property management! We will definitely be staying here again sometime.

Wow! Thank you for sharing such a phenomenal first review for Cabin on the Cove! It is truly wonderful knowing that you enjoyed your stay, got to enjoy spotting the Yooperlight, and found the cabin to provide everything needed for your family to have an enjoyable stay! Next time you are in the Keweenaw area, hopefully we will get to have you back!
