The Top Fishing Spots in the Upper Peninsula Michigan
The Great Lakes
The Great Lakes provide a handful of fantastic fishing locations in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Marquette, Munising, and St. Ignace are the best places to base your angling explorations on Lake Huron and Lake Superior. You’ll find plenty of charter fishing companies in the area, but one of our favorites is Daybreak Charters based in Marquette. These lakes feature a wide variety of species, including chinook, coho, lake trout, whitefish, steelhead, and splake, among other common fish like bass and perch. Of course, you can also fish from places like Au Train Point near Munising and Keweenaw Bay near L’anse and Baraga.
Lake Michigan’s shoreline also offers plenty of great fishing spots. Larger towns like Manistique and Escanaba have charter companies and parks that feature great places to cast your line in and relax.
Tip: Make sure you get your Michigan fishing license before heading out to fish!
Rivers and Streams
If you’re searching for the best fishing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, look no further than the bounty of rivers and streams that dot this beautiful stretch of land. The Lake of Clouds in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park offers a fantastic mix of hiking and fishing. You’ll find plenty of streams branching off from the lake and traveling through the woods. Nearby Lake Gogebic features miles of shoreline that are prime for freshwater anglers.
Ottawa National Forest has dozens of lakes dotting the beautiful landscapes bordering Wisconsin in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. The warm waters of the Menominee River are perfect for catching smallmouth bass. The Manistique River is one of the best places to go fishing in the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan, especially if you’re trying to catch smallmouth bass, walleye, and northern pike. Lastly, the Tahquamenon River is home to tons of northern pike below the Dollarville Dam.
