How to Decide Where to go Skiing in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan

Here are our top 6 suggestions for hitting the slopes in the Upper Peninsula:

1. Mount Bohemia

Mount Bohemia offers four incredible mountainside sections at this renowned Upper Peninsula Michigan skiing area. Skiiers of all skill levels can enjoy the slopes in Haunted Valley and Middle Earth, but the Mount Bohemia runs on the front of the mountain are only for experienced skiers. There is also a bar and a restaurant where you can grab a drink and some food after a long day on the slopes. You can even visit in the summer when there’s no snow and enjoy the many activities here!

2. Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort

This Upper Peninsula Michigan skiing area near Bessemer has 45 trails, nine chairlifts, and 253 skiable acres. Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort also has three unique terrain parks that are perfect for testing your skiing and snowboarding skills. You’ll also find two full-service restaurants on-site. 

3. Marquette Mountain Ski & Bike Area

Marquette Mountain Ski & Bike Area has a variety of slopes located south of Marquette. Not only do they have rentals and ski/snowboard rentals, but this Upper Peninsula Michigan skiing area also has a race team. If you buy a season pass here, you can also use it to access Big Powderhorn Mountain!

4. Porcupine Mountain Ski Area

The Porcupine Mountain Ski Area sits on the edge of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park and only a couple of miles away from picturesque views from the Lake of the Clouds Overlook. The slopes of this Upper Peninsula Michigan skiing area also boasts great views of Lake Michigan. The prices here also aren’t too steep.

5. Blackjack and Indianhead Mountain

Big Snow Resort encompasses both Blackjack Mountain and Indianhead Mountain and is right around the corner from the Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort. The 410 skiable acres include 56 trails, three terrain parks, and 15 lifts along with a handful of restaurants and bars. 

6. Wolverine Nordic Trails

If downhill skiing isn’t your thing, Wolverine Nordic Trails offers plenty of fantastic cross country skiing. There are eight trails ranging from easy to difficult and area right around the corner from Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort.
