Grand Haven

Home to seven beaches and several wildlife parks, Grand Haven has everything Michigan is known for in a nutshell. The small-town charm of Grand Haven has made it a popular retreat from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

The Recommendation: Enjoy the wooden boardwalk on North Beach.

Saugatuck/Douglas

If you enjoy a bit more “culture” in your beach town, Saugatuck/Douglas has culture in spades! The area is home to six beaches including the world-renowned Oval Beach, the Ox-Bow School of Art, and lake-side outdoor dining options. It is hard to go wrong with the Saugatuck/Douglas area especially if you are traveling with all adults in your party.

The Recommendation: Take a morning beach trip to OVal Beach and finish the evening with a tour of the art/craft brewery offerings.

Silver Lake Sand Dunes / Hart

Famous for a lack of tourists and miles of hiking trails, Silver Lake Sand Dunes/Hart Area is a proper Michigan secret. The sand dunes are a popular tourist attraction that brings tourists and locals together in small-town Hart, Michigan.

The Recommendation: Bring or rent an off-road vehicle of your choice to get down and dirty in the iconic Silver Lake Sand Dunes.

Muskegon

Muskegon is a popular town that is home to 26 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. You will enjoy it all year round, but the summertime is perfect for outdoor dining, boating, and visiting Michigan’s Adventure Amusement & Water Park.

The Recommendation: Visit Muskegon State Park where you have the option of swimming in the Lake or hiking in the woods of the state park.

Holland

Known for its recreation of its Dutch counterpart, Holland, Michigan is a unique town equal parts American and Dutch. Take pictures by the iconic “Big Red” lighthouse, the idyllic windmills, or the Veldheer Tulip Gardens.

The Recommendation: Start at Holland State Park where you can see everything you have to visit while in the area.
