The History of the Mackinac Bridge

After over 75 years of planning a bridge that could connect both of Michigan’s peninsulas, David B. Steinman completed the Mackinac Bridge in 1957 as a solution to year-round passage across the strait. Today, the “Mighty Mac” is the fifth longest suspension bridge in the world and frequently finds itself on television shows featuring the world’s architectural marvels.
