Beautiful out of the way location
We stayed at this very nice, well-appointed and well insulated home that is actually located in Redridge (which is officially listed as a ghost town, even though there are a handful of residence living there) in February 2025 during MTU's Winter Carnival. Having attended Michigan Tech in the mid 1970’s, I’m quite familiar with this area of the Keweenaw Peninsula, the mailing address and GPS driving directions are actually Atlantic Mine, about 10 miles from the property. The home is located on the shore of Lake Superior, across a stamp sand beach which was finally uncovered by the wind one day that blew the snow cover off the beach. The location for us was perfect, 11 miles from Houghton, 23 miles from Calumet, and 57 miles from Copper Harbor, close enough to the attractions, but far enough away for the serenity. Although it was overcast and snowy, I would guess due to the lack of white light wash, you would have great views of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) when they were out. If you have never experienced them in person, they truly are spectacular. If you are looking for a vacation rental in the Keweenaw, I highly recommend this property.

FVR RESPONSE:

Thank you so much for your lovely, thoughtful review, Gary! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Superior Retreat. It’s great to know that the location, serenity, and proximity to nearby attractions worked well for you. We’re also glad you were able to appreciate the beach, and we agree—those Northern Lights would be amazing to see from the property! Your insight as a Michigan Tech alum adds a unique perspective to the review, and we appreciate your recommendation. We hope you had a fantastic time during MTU’s Winter Carnival, and we’d love to welcome you back for another stay in the future. Thank you again for choosing our home! -Jessica FVR

Great.
The place worked great for what we needed. The snowmobile trail by the home was closed, not their fault, so we had to trailer to Houghton daily. An easy 20 minute drive. It actually worked out well. Around the home we found several commercial forest land trails to ride for smaller off trail days. Overall a great experience. Will look to stay here again in the fall to explore.

FVR RESPONSE:

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review, Shana! We’re glad the location worked well for your trip, and that you were able to find some great trails nearby despite the snowmobile trail being closed (we apologize for the inconvenience there). It’s great to hear that you had an enjoyable time and made the most of your daily drives and off-trail riding. We’d love to host you again in the fall for more exploring, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future! -Jessica FVR

AMAZING PLACE!
Everything about this place is extraordinary. (Well, except for the black flies, which no one can control!!) The home is spacious and yet cozy, the bedding is SO comfortable, the kitchen is roomy and has everything you need; and the beach and the view...........oh, the view!!!! It can't be described, you just have to experience it. The folks at Freshwater were top-notch; extremely helpful and friendly. We will definitely use them again.
