*Within walking distance of private access Lake Michigan beach!
*Pet friendly

A peaceful beach getaway is right around the corner-- just down the street from the sandy shores of Lake Michigan! The fact that this home is pet friendly is a true bonus for this area!  While close to a popular road, the deck backs up to a forested backyard. This immediately brings out a feeling of getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Lakeside Summer Cottage is more vintage than modern, yet has a great flow for that simple Union Pier family gathering, near the beach. The kitchen is the hub which provides has ample space to prepare your meals, plus eat around the table together. The kitchen table doubles as the host for family game night.

This ranch home is all on one level. The master bedroom, with a queen bed, has an en suite bathroom with a large, deep tub and separate shower. The other two (2) bedrooms have a queen bed, and two (2) beds, respectfully.  The additional full bathroom can be easily shared by the two (2) bedrooms.

We look forward to your visit to Union Pier where privacy, ease and your furry family member are welcome!

Very comfortable, clean & nice! My only negative comment is it is exactly 136 stair steps each way to the beach which should be clearly communicated. The beach was beautiful & worth the trek however.

FVR RESPONSE:

Hi Debbie! We're so happy to know you enjoyed your stay, and appreciate you letting us know that mention of the step count would be helpful, so we can get that information updated, and continue to improve. It's great to know you found the home to be comfortable, clean, and that the beach was worth the walk! Hopefully we will get a chance to host you again.

Great Location!
This pet friendly house was a short walk to the beach. We brought our things in a wagon and left it at the top of the stairs while we were there. We have stayed in this area before and are looking forward to coming back next year! The house ammenities were just what we needed for our short stay.

Lakeside Summer Cottage
The house was clean and comfortable. It was very well supplied with kitchen/bathroom/bedroom supplies. It had a great fenced backyard for our dog. A short walk to the private community beach. We had a great time. The one issue was that it was very close to the main road/train tracks. While the traffic sound didn't bother us, the train horns blew everytime they passed by, even in the middle of the night. If you are a light sleeper it would definitely wake you up. Also, the landscaping company left the gate to the backyard open after they mowed and didn't tell us they did that, so if you have a dog, make sure to check that the gates are latched before letting them out.

FVR RESPONSE:

Thank you for review your stay Wendy! We are happy to know you enjoyed your time at the house, and apologize for the inconvenience regarding the fence being left open! We will make sure to get this addressed  so it isn't a continuous issue. I'm glad the trains didn't pose too much issue, though we do apologize for any inconvenience. We would love to have you back in the future!

relaxing stay
The Lakeside Summer Cottage provided a great homebase for our adventures with our dog. Clean, comfortable, and fully-equipped with necessities, the home was a perfect place to kick back and recharge. Special notice goes to the backyard/deck area. The vegetation creates a private space with room for the dog to enjoy. Close to many good beach, hiking, and food options.

Jenny, thank you for this lovely review.  Lakeside Summer Cottage is one of our newer properties, so it's great to get a thorough review.  Being able to take our pups on vacation with us is so special, and we're glad that you did it with us.  We hope you and your pup come back again to recharge!

Perfect Rental for Us
We spent a weekend at Lakeside Summer Cottage for the purpose of attending a cycling event in New Buffalo. We have found New Buffalo to be a little crowded in the past, so we went up Red Arrow Highway five minutes further and stayed in Lakeside. The pace was more relaxed and access to the beach was just a short walk down the street. This house was immaculate and perfect for two couples and a dog. It’s very “vintage”, which we liked. It has three bedrooms. A primary en suite on one side and two smaller bedrooms with a full bath on the other. The living space and kitchen were in the middle. There was plenty of room to spread out and relax and a large table to gather for meals or play games. The outdoor space included a large deck with a table and chairs and an umbrella to block the sun in the morning and plenty of room to grill out and have coolers and keep beach stuff. We chose to eat out ( at the Roadhouse and Heston’s) for dinners. We enjoyed our coffee and could relax with a book all day out there, but there were so many other things to do! It’s not too far from golf courses and cycling around the area is really nice, especially when you know the area. We saw beautiful sunsets and walked the beach. The neighborhood is easy to walk around, and everyone is so friendly. The road to the beach isn’t paved, it’s sand and gravel, so no traffic until you get to Lakeshore Drive. The outfit that rents the place is very easy to work with and very nice on the phone. They made directions very clear, and we got into the place with no problems. While we were there, we had a small issue and they were instantly available and made sure that our issue was resolved within minutes. It’s a great little dog-friendly house. We plan to book again!
