 ***Located on Lake Michigan

Your small family adventure to the Thimbleberry Cottage begins when you turn off of US-2. Soon pavement turns to gravel as you inch your way down the Garden Peninsula toward Lake Michigan. Then, as you move closer to the Lake, you will turn onto a decent 2-track road. Following a terrain where you need to drive slowly, plus pay attention to your markers is a part of the experience; the building anticipation as you wind your way closer to the Thimbleberry Cottage.

Once you arrive at this newly built cottage, you will rejoice you have found this unassuming home, just behind the parking area.
Keep in mind that the phenomenal view is just an opening of the door away....
Ta-da... The wall of windows overlooking Lake Michigan is sure to capture your heart.

Every detail has been attended to at Thimbleberry Cottage. The décor exhibits a simple, yet thoughtful, essence. Being able to cook while you gaze at Lake Michigan or watch a movie (via streaming or DVD) while soaking in the view of Lake Michigan are treats. Simply enjoying the sunrise over the Lake as you sip your morning coffee gives you time to reflect on this wonderful slice of heaven.

Walking down to the beach, you'll experience tide changes which display varying amounts of sand and rock. At certain times of the year, there is even a labyrinth of stones set up to provide further relaxation with a walking meditation. Calm, balance, and creativity seem to be easily drawn out of your experience at the Thimbleberry Cottage.

Sitting around the campfire at night is the classic Michigan way to wind down those days along the lake. Bring your marshmallows and stories to share. The ambiance is picturesque. The best of Michigan-- tucked between large trees on both sides with Lake Michigan in your frontal view.

One of the most convenient aspects this cottage offers is that all the basics are on the main floor. This is a bonus for anyone in your family with mobility challenges. A comfortable birds-eye view of the Lake, plus one (1) bedroom, the bathroom, kitchen, and outside deck facing the lake are all just steps away.
Plus, there are two (2) other well-appointed bedrooms, plus an additional living room/gaming area all on the lower level. In addition, the lower level provides easy walk-out access to the outside fire-pit and lake.

Although you cannot easily see the neighboring homes through the trees, we do ask that quiet times be adhered to, as we have working families living nearby. The sense of privacy is apparent.

On your way home, don't forget to pick up some local thimbleberry jam on your way home. Our hope is that the family memories you made at the Thimbleberry Cottage are etched in your heart forever.

Reviews

Thimbleberry Cottage
This was a perfect location for our family's summer getaway. The house is spacious, clean, and well-equipped. The location is amazing; the gorgeous beach is located right on Lake Michigan and the yard and decks offer a perfect place to enjoy the scenery or a picture-perfect sunrise. I wouldn't hesitate to book this location again. We stayed for 5 days and I wish we could have stayed for 5 more.

We had an incredible stay on the property: the beauty of nature and Lake Michigan are unsurpassed. We had bonfires and played in the water the whole time. Our family loved every aspect of this trip! :) We will always remember our time here and certainly hope to return. Also this cottage was perfect. Clean, well- appointed, well- designed and fulfilled all of our needs. Thank you for all you efforts put into this property. It really shows that you care.

Lovely property
This is a lovely, clean, well appointed property. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen has newer dishes, and the two living rooms (one upstairs and one downstairs) provide ample room. But it is the beach that steals the show--the views are stunning! The beach itself is a combination of rocks and sand, with a rocky landing as you first get into the water, but it becomes sandy a further ways out. To get to the beach you do have to go down a sandy hill that might be challenging for young children and older adults with mobility issues to manage. It is a very quiet and serene property, but renters should be aware it is remote. The driveway to get to the property is not the easiest to traverse, especially if one had a compact car. Even though the property says it is in Manistique, it is actually about 20-25 minutes from town. Given its remote location, the WiFi was not always reliable and ran very slowly most of the time. It was concerning at points when it would stop working altogether, given there would be no way to call out in the event of an emergency because cell service was difficult too (we use Verizon). It seems a though the property may still be on the newer side, as none of the bedrooms in the basement have closet rods installed and there is exposed metal edging in the basement where the carpet is yet to be completed. It would've been nice to have the closets completed, as there is limited drawer space and we had to leave our clothes in the suitcases. The exposed metal edging also seemed dangerous, given it is right in the main walkway from the walkout basement, and we had to be vigilant to keep our 6 y/o away from it to avoid injuries. Finally, it would really be helpful if more hooks were installed in the bathroom, as it was difficult to find places to put wet towels with only one towel bar and one hook on the door. Overall, we would definitely choose to stay at this rental again, as it was clean, comfortable and had beautiful views of Lake Michigan.

FVR RESPONSE:

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful review of your stay at Thimbleberry! We love knowing that you enjoyed your time at the house, as well as having a chance to enjoy the wonderful beach and views of the lake! We also appreciate you bringing to our attention the areas that could use some work, and potentially be a safety concern, as we certainly want our guests to not have the extra worry of any injuries! Our maintenance team has been updated regarding everything mentioned here, so we can continue to work towards improving guest stays. We look forward to potentially having a chance to host you again next time you're in the area, and hope you think of us for your next Michigan getaway!

The views are always there!
This place is a dream! We really enjoyed the views of the lake from wherever we were- eating, sleeping, lounging on the awesome porch, the lake was always there! The cottage was so comfortable and we really enjoyed the firepit- we made smores :) One of our favorite parts about this place is all the trees and rocks and wildlife (we even saw 2 deer drinking from the lake!) Thank you!!!

Great location for exploring the UP
Thank you for sharing your home with us. We loved the lake views and sound of the waves. Our family was able to slow down a bit and spend time together before sending our youngest off to college. We visited Kitchitikipi, Pictured Rocks, and Mackinac Island this trip. We loved the Riptide boat ride around Grand Island. We saw several bald eagles- one flew right over the boat. So much fun!! Thank again!
