East Lake Cottage Mc Millan

EAST LAKE COTTAGE (on East Lake): Classic cottage, Sleeps 5 (in one room), rowboat included, Pets welcomed

Pets Welcome

SLEEPS: 5 max
BEDROOMS: 1 open loft (no bedroom door): 4 beds
*LAKEFRONT (East Lake)

This small cottage on the inland East Lake is perfect for the family looking for the classic cottage experience in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The cabin is just about 90 minutes West of the Mackinac Bridge, 7 hours from the Metro Detroit area and 9 hours from Chicago. The amenities from home, coupled with the beautiful view of East Lake makes for a perfect get-away. Eat inside at the wooden table and sleep together in the comfy loft.

Enjoy fishing on the 120 acre East Lake either from the dock or the rowboat that is provided with the cabin. The walk-out basement with an easy access 1/2 bathroom makes it convenient to walk into the cabin from your campfire. The cabin is also within walking distance to a little store. As with all of our properties, pets are considered-- just ask. Linens and towels are provided as well as basic paper products. Bring your family and enjoy the fun of relaxing in the outdoors. Cook outside, eat s'mores over the fire, fish, bring a book, and just have fun.

The East Lake Cottage is ideal for couples, or  for a small family.  It's definitely not a convenient place for 2 couples due to the fact that we only have 1 queen sized bed and 3 twin beds, all the in the wide open loft. Multi-generational travel can be challenging with the natural inclines heading to the entryway door and  down to the lake.

Sleeping Arrangements:
Open loft upstairs- 1 queen-size bed and 3 twin-size beds.

Appliances: We have a microwave, coffee pot, toaster, full-sized refrigerator, full-sized electric stove/oven with the majority of your basic kitchen utensils, including basic dishes, pots and pans. I'm sorry to say that there is not a dishwasher at the East Lake Cabin.

Boat Launch: There is a public boat launch within a mile of the cabin. It is right off of MI-28 on East Lake.

Cell phone service: Cell phone service is generally unreliable in the Upper Peninsula when you travel outside of Marquette and Escanaba.

Dock:  Yes, you have a private dock for your sole use when you stay at East Lake. There is a public, State of Michigan launch (approx. 1200 feet) near the cabin as well. The public launch is off of Mi-28.

Boats: We provide a basic rowboat.

Fishing: Yes, generally East Lake has good fishing. Guests have had a good experience with perch and various pan fish.  Since trout tend to like fast-moving deep, cold water, there are not trout found on East Lake. Fishing poles are not provided.  You can fish off the dock or the rowboat. Feel free to bring your own boat. The boat launch is about 1/2 mile down the road.

Firewood/Fire pit: You can pick up your own firewood at many different places throughout the U.P. There is a fire pit for your use as well.

Grill: There is a basic, charcoal grill at East Lake.  You will need to bring your own charcoal.

Internet: No. It's nice to enjoy the time away from technology.

Linens & Towels: Yes! We have basic bed linens, plus both kitchen and bath towel

Parking: 2 cars max

Pets at East Lake: Yes, we do accept dogs. We charge a flat fee of $50 per pet.

Swimming: The area around the dock isn't deep, yet it is more muddy than sandy.  The closest beach swimming is at Round Lake, next to the State Campground, about 5 miles southwest of the cabin.

TV: YES!  We have 2 TVs with satellite Direct TV- one downstairs in the living room, and the other upstairs in the open bedroom loft area.  We still a DVD player, so you can watch your own movies, plus have the convenience with Direct TV with local channels, plus DVDs. There is one TV in the living room, and another upstairs in the loft.

Local Attractions:
*Newberry (a 1-picture movie theater, grocery stores, ice cream, etc.) is 7 miles northeast.
*Oswald's Bear Ranch: 20 miles northeast.
*Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore (& boat tours): 1 hour 15 minutes away. (55.6 miles)

Very clean and cozy! We enjoyed our visit.
We spent a lot of time inside enjoying the cozy fireplace and view of the lake. We were looking for a place to rest and get recharged. The weather was rainy most of the time, but that helped us to slow down and not feel guilty about staying inside. We would recommend this place to a friend. It was very clean upon arrival. Thank you!!

Kathy, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at East Lake Cottage.  In our busy world it is so important to take some time to really relax and unwind and East Lake Cottage is perfect for that!  We hope to see you again!

Lovely Get Away
Our week at the East Lake Cottage was lovely. The cabin was just the right size for our week exploring the central/east Upper Peninsula. The kitchen has all of the essentials & the sleeping loft was more than sufficient for the 2 of us (the cottage could have easily slept 7). It was such a relaxing & quiet place we never turned on the TV!! Only a few drawbacks -- the water is quite "sulfur-ish" for those of us not use to this so would suggest picking up a gallon or two of water for cooking/drinking, the stairs up to the sleeping loft squeak quite loudly (no sneaking!!!, this could be a good or bad thing depending on perspective), & the windows in the sleeping loft facing the lake don't open (very sad during the beautiful weather we had).

Louise, we are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at  East Lake Cottage.  It is in a great location for checking out the fabulous UP.  We'll see what we can do about those squeaky stairs, although they are great for keeping kids from sneaking out!

2nd stay and not the last
A nice and cozy cabin conveniently close to stores and at driving distance of many touristic attractions.

Marie, we are so happy that you came back again.  Returning guests are the very best advertisement we could ask for.  East Lake Cottage is a great location and we'll look for you again next year!

You found the right one!
WE WILL BE BACK again and again! Me, my husband & our dog Nova loved our stay! The cabin is right on the lake, and loved that the place came with a row boat! We caught a ton of bass right off the dock! We only wish the area off the dock would have been kept up with so we could swim! (There’s no swimming right off the dock due to over growth) but it was okay we jumped off the rowboat! :) They have a fire pit close by the lake so we enjoyed hot dogs and burgers on the grill (came with grill) Bring your own drinking water! The cabin was sooo clean and cozy! VCR, Radio, Directv (go outside!!) The stairs are loud and creaky so i’d wake my husband up early every morning.. but it was my plan. ;) Also, this cabin is is the perfect location of touring the UP! Also, walking distance to the local gas station! Pick this cozy cute little cabin.. you wont regret it! Thank you so much! Megan

Megan, we are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay at East Lake Cottage so much and love that you caught so many fish!  Cottages, water and dogs (the 4 legged kind!) are the perfect combination, and then throw in a fire pit and you are all set!

Nice for family of 5
It was nice to have a cabin with a bed for each of our teens to sleep in, that isn't always easy to find for a family of five or more. The cabin was nice and clean, had everything that we needed, and the kids enjoyed the fishing on East Lake.

Michelle, we loved having you as our guests, and are really happy to hear that East Lake Cottage worked out so well for you and your family.  We hope to see you again!

The Best Vacation Ever
We rented a cabin for a week for our honeymoon. It felt safe, private, and relaxing. The location was close enough to get gas and groceries, but settled in nature. Everything was spotless, the hospitality was excellent, and the price was extremely reasonable. My husband and I loved our cabin. It was off of a lake, letting us dip our toes or swim. They even thought of condiments, coffee, plenty of towels, kitchenware, tv and movies, cards, toys for kids, and anything else that a family staying would need. The only thing missing was us!

First, congratulations on getting married!  We are thrilled that you chose East Lake Cottage for your honeymoon location.  We appreciate your review and hope to see you again.

Home away from home
We had an amazing time at the East Lake cottage. We were very leery at first due to some of the reviews that we had red. Especially the review about frequent mice and the smell of the water. These reviews could not have been further from the truth we saw no sign of any kind of pests and the water was simply well water on a lake. The cottage was extremely clean and well-kept and I especially loved the little handmade touches throughout the cottage.

Thank you Adam for this lovely review. We make every attempt at making certain that our properties are clean and homey for our guests.  East Lake Cottage is a great property.  I love all the knotty pine.  Hopefully, you had a lot of deck time to simply relax.

Fall getaway
We had an amazing time! What a neat cottage-cozy and plenty of sleeping area in loft above. We brought our "swimmer" dog with us-he loved the lake. We took the row boat out and fished for a bit-we caught several small bluegills. The colors were beautiful. The locals were very friendly at the Bear Denn and the Triangle restaurant. Curtis is only 10 miles south of that area!!

1.20.18  So happy that you enjoyed your stay.  Loved that you took your "swimmer" dog with you!  Be sure to check out all of our 72 properties.  We give returning guests a 10% discount when they book directly through us!
