This small cottage on the inland East Lake is perfect for the family looking for the classic cottage experience in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The cabin is just about 90 minutes West of the Mackinac Bridge, 7 hours from the Metro Detroit area and 9 hours from Chicago. The amenities from home, coupled with the beautiful view of East Lake makes for a perfect get-away. Eat inside at the wooden table and sleep together in the comfy loft.

Enjoy fishing on the 120 acre East Lake either from the dock or the rowboat that is provided with the cabin. The walk-out basement with an easy access 1/2 bathroom makes it convenient to walk into the cabin from your campfire. The cabin is also within walking distance to a little store. As with all of our properties, pets are considered-- just ask. Linens and towels are provided as well as basic paper products. Bring your family and enjoy the fun of relaxing in the outdoors. Cook outside, eat s'mores over the fire, fish, bring a book, and just have fun.

The East Lake Cottage is ideal for couples, or  for a small family.  It's definitely not a convenient place for 2 couples due to the fact that we only have 1 queen sized bed and 3 twin beds, all the in the wide open loft. Multi-generational travel can be challenging with the natural inclines heading to the entryway door and  down to the lake.

Sleeping Arrangements:
Open loft upstairs- 1 queen-size bed and 3 twin-size beds.

Nice getaway cabin if you're looking to disconnect and have a "home base" to venture out on day trips

Freshwater Vacation Rentals Response
Sheila, it feels so good to disconnect sometimes and East Lake Cottage is the perfect spot for doing just that. Hopefully you got out in the rowboat to explore East Lake a bit.  Thanks for writing the review and we hope to see you again.

Weekend Getaway
My friends and I enjoyed this place. It was relaxing and cozy after a long day of hiking. We took the rowboat out for less than 30 minutes and caught a few big mouth bass and sunfishes. Although it was challenging for us city folks to get used to no locks on the windows, it wasn't a big concern considering how high the windows were. Linens and towels were clean. The only thing I would recommend is to bring your own pillows if you have allergies. Stairs squeaked but didn't bother us too much. And yes, the water smells, but that's just how it is with well water. Overall, great place. Thank you for allowing us to stay at East Lake Cottage. (Cara, we didn't put the trash in the metal trash bin because it was already full with two bags from before, which is why we placed it in the plastic one)

Freshwater Vacation Rentals Response
Boa, don't you just love going fishing!  Love that you caught some so quickly.  East Lake is known to be a good fishing lake.  The deck is perfect for morning coffee or evening cocktails.  We'd love to have you back again.

Great cabin for family retreat
We enjoyed staying at this cute cabin. Having the rowboat available was a plus-we caught 9 fish one evening! The deck seating area was nice, the beds and couches were comfortable, and the kitchen was big enough to cook in. The creaking stairs made it hard for people to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and the sulfur smell was strong in the shower, but overall those were small things and we enjoyed our stay.

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:
East Lake Cottage is a great property, so we are happy that you enjoyed your stay.  Having access to the private dock and rowboat are a bonus.  It's close for day trips to Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore and Tahquamenon Falls State Park.  There is also the Toonerville Trolley (Tahquamenon Falls Wilderness Excursion) just 25 minutes away.  Thanks for letting us know about the creaking stairs and the sulfur smell in the shower.  We will see what c an be done about both issues.  We will We hope to see you again.

First time in UP
Cabin was centrally located to everything we needed and when there were issues management was prompt in getting back with a solution.

Wonderful experience
Home was warm, inviting and clean. Lake was fantastic and had great fishing. It was a wonderful place to have a weekend away and unplug with our 2 kids (10 & 11) and dog.

Aaron we are so happy that you and your family enjoyed staying at East Lake Cottage.  It's always great to find a place that is pet friendly like East Lake Cottage.  Enjoy fishing on the 120 acre East Lake either from the dock or the rowboat that is provided with the cabin.  It is also great proximity to many of the UP sites.

Good location to get to the Falls and Pictured rocks.
We had a very good experience at this property. It’s located an hour or so from Tahquamenon falls and pictured rocks. Newberry is 10 mins away and will be good for most of your grocery shopping. The cabin is as described. The only concern we had was that the cabin kept running out of hot water really soon, and even after waiting a long time did not seem to heat up. Apart from that, our experience was really good. We enjoyed sitting by the lake and grilling outdoors. Sleeping areas are in the attic area and if you have any persons who have difficulty climbing stairs, this may not work for you.

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:
Hersheal, we are happy to hear that you enjoyed staying at East Lake Cottage.  It is a great property, and well located for day trips to Pictured Rocks and Tahquamenon Falls.  We will look into the hot water issue.  In the future, if there are ever any issues, please let us know and we will get it taken care of immediately.  Our guest's comfort is always our primary concern.  We look forward to seeing you again.

Relaxing cabin
We enjoyed our stay on East Lake. We only spent two nights but would have loved to stay longer, it was very peaceful and loved the lake view. Would definitely stay here again.

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:
Leah, East Lake Cottage is great and we love when  our guests think so too!  You'll definitely need to stay longer next time.  You can fish from the dock or from the row boat, or you can take the 90 minute drive to the Mackinac Bridge.  There is lots to do here.  we look forward to your return.

Quiet getaway in the UP
Loved our two day stay at the cabin. It is very centrally located to many activities in the UP. We rowed the boat out onto the lake, and sat on the balcony reading for hours. Beautiful cabin!

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:
Alina, reading on the balcony of East Lake Cottage is such a treat!  We are glad that you spent hours doing it.  The UP is a special place to visit, and East Lake Cottage is a great location for making day trips to the many UP natural sites.  We do hope to work with you again in the future.

Very clean and cozy! We enjoyed our visit.
We spent a lot of time inside enjoying the cozy fireplace and view of the lake. We were looking for a place to rest and get recharged. The weather was rainy most of the time, but that helped us to slow down and not feel guilty about staying inside. We would recommend this place to a friend. It was very clean upon arrival. Thank you!!

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:
Kathy, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at East Lake Cottage.  In our busy world it is so important to take some time to really relax and unwind and East Lake Cottage is perfect for that!  We hope to see you again!

Lovely Get Away
Our week at the East Lake Cottage was lovely. The cabin was just the right size for our week exploring the central/east Upper Peninsula. The kitchen has all of the essentials & the sleeping loft was more than sufficient for the 2 of us (the cottage could have easily slept 7). It was such a relaxing & quiet place we never turned on the TV!! Only a few drawbacks -- the water is quite "sulfur-ish" for those of us not use to this so would suggest picking up a gallon or two of water for cooking/drinking, the stairs up to the sleeping loft squeak quite loudly (no sneaking!!!, this could be a good or bad thing depending on perspective), & the windows in the sleeping loft facing the lake don't open (very sad during the beautiful weather we had).

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:
Louise, we are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at  East Lake Cottage.  It is in a great location for checking out the fabulous UP.  We'll see what we can do about those squeaky stairs, although they are great for keeping kids from sneaking out!

You found the right one!
WE WILL BE BACK again and again! Me, my husband & our dog Nova loved our stay! The cabin is right on the lake, and loved that the place came with a row boat! We caught a ton of bass right off the dock! We only wish the area off the dock would have been kept up with so we could swim! (There’s no swimming right off the dock due to over growth) but it was okay we jumped off the rowboat! :) They have a fire pit close by the lake so we enjoyed hot dogs and burgers on the grill (came with grill) Bring your own drinking water! The cabin was sooo clean and cozy! VCR, Radio, Directv (go outside!!) The stairs are loud and creaky so i’d wake my husband up early every morning.. but it was my plan. ;) Also, this cabin is is the perfect location of touring the UP! Also, walking distance to the local gas station! Pick this cozy cute little cabin.. you wont regret it! Thank you so much! Megan

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:

Megan, we are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay at East Lake Cottage so much and love that you caught so many fish!  Cottages, water and dogs (the 4 legged kind!) are the perfect combination, and then throw in a fire pit and you are all set!

Nice for family of 5
It was nice to have a cabin with a bed for each of our teens to sleep in, that isn't always easy to find for a family of five or more. The cabin was nice and clean, had everything that we needed, and the kids enjoyed the fishing on East Lake.

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:

Michelle, we loved having you as our guests, and are really happy to hear that East Lake Cottage worked out so well for you and your family.  We hope to see you again!

The Best Vacation Ever
We rented a cabin for a week for our honeymoon. It felt safe, private, and relaxing. The location was close enough to get gas and groceries, but settled in nature. Everything was spotless, the hospitality was excellent, and the price was extremely reasonable. My husband and I loved our cabin. It was off of a lake, letting us dip our toes or swim. They even thought of condiments, coffee, plenty of towels, kitchenware, tv and movies, cards, toys for kids, and anything else that a family staying would need. The only thing missing was us!

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:

First, congratulations on getting married!  We are thrilled that you chose East Lake Cottage for your honeymoon location.  We appreciate your review and hope to see you again.

Home away from home
We had an amazing time at the East Lake cottage. We were very leery at first due to some of the reviews that we had red. Especially the review about frequent mice and the smell of the water. These reviews could not have been further from the truth we saw no sign of any kind of pests and the water was simply well water on a lake. The cottage was extremely clean and well-kept and I especially loved the little handmade touches throughout the cottage.

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:

Thank you Adam for this lovely review. We make every attempt at making certain that our properties are clean and homey for our guests.  East Lake Cottage is a great property.  I love all the knotty pine.  Hopefully, you had a lot of deck time to simply relax.

Fall getaway
We had an amazing time! What a neat cottage-cozy and plenty of sleeping area in loft above. We brought our "swimmer" dog with us-he loved the lake. We took the row boat out and fished for a bit-we caught several small bluegills. The colors were beautiful. The locals were very friendly at the Bear Denn and the Triangle restaurant. Curtis is only 10 miles south of that area!!

Nice little cabin
Great place to relax and enjoy some fishing lots of little bluegill and feisty pike. Thank you for replacing the T.V. the old one needed to go. I would give 5 stars but the drinking water would not allow it also the upstairs windows should be fixed for use but we can get bottled water... thanks again it was a great week!

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:
YEAH! Happy the fishing was great for you vacation. Your welcome for replacing the television. We just wanted your stay to be the best it could be. Thank you for your window suggestion. I will let maintenance know. We hope to host you again!

Quaint cottage, great central location, amazing customer service!!!
The cottage was immaculately clean. Beds are comfy. Can't beat the central location for day trips to Mackinac Island, Tahquamenon Falls, Munising and Grand Marais. Nearby convenience store has every thing you need that you forgot to bring! The customer service is Amazing! They were very understanding / accommodating regarding a scheduling snafu. The only negative is a strong sulfur to the water - which is pretty typical for lake side homes. Recommend bringing your own drinking water.

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:
YEAH! WE LOVE YOU LOVED IT! Thank you for all the positive comments! We hope you consider booking with us again!

Honeymoon at East Lake Cottage
Wonder place, could have used a dusting before we arrived and needs a new grill grate but no complaints. It was awesome. Not too far from anything and still private. Didn't want to leave.

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:
We are working on that grill grate as I type. Thank you for the suggestions. It is hard to keep things dust free in the UP in the summer with the window open! We are happy you enjoyed yourselves! We hope you consider booking with us again!

Fantastic Cottage for our family of Five
We had such an enjoyable stay at East Lake Cottage, and very much enjoyed our time as visitors. We came with our three children (9,7,and 3), and they share our opinion. The cottage was clean and comfortable, it was well stocked, and the furniture was in good shape. Although this is not the largest cottage, it is laid out well, and we all found the sleeping loft to be a perfect fit for our family (we all had our own space, but our children prefer to keep us within eyeshot when they're visiting a new place, so the loft was great). We found the extra information/instructions from our hosts in the binder to be easy to understand and helpful, and we appreciated the extra touches they made available to us such as use of the rowboat (we brought a trolling motor as suggested, but found the oars to be easy to use as well), video collection and books, and even the small collection of toys that our younger kids were able to use while there. The two docks were great, as were the swings. We caught many, many fish on the lake (Northern Pike, Muskie, Perch, Large Mouth Bass, Sunfish and Bluegill), and the kids got to see resident loons, eagles, king fishers, hawks, muskrat, ducks, turtles, frogs, toads... they were pretty excited! I would like to mention two items that should be fixed for future guests: (1) The cold knob on the bathrooom sink faucet was not working (no cold water in the bathroom sink), and (2)the info. in the profile should be updated to state the DirectTV doesn't work. Neither affected our ability to enjoy our time there, so I don't feel that it should be reflected in our rating, though. We found the location of East Lake Cottage to be great for exploring the U.P. Everything was an easy and scenic drive, and the cottage was so central that it was very easy to take day trips and still have time to relax and fish with our kids at the cottage as well. We'd definitely consider staying at East Lake Cottage in the future!

FRESHWATER RESPONSE:
Thank you so much for the positive feedback; we will take your 2 suggestions into account and update accordingly. We are thrilled thrilled that you enjoyed the location. It is a nice jumping point. We would love to have you again as guests. Give us a call to book your 2018 vacation!

Great time!
Me and the family enjoyed an absolutely great vacation up at east lake cottage. The lake was beautiful. My boys had a great time fishing and watching the bald eagle soaring over the lake even swooping down to grab a snack lol. The cottage great and the beds were crazy comfortable lol. We did not want to leave and cant wait to go back. Real close to the bear ranch, falls, and just a short drive to catch the ferry to mackinaw island. Great Great Great time!!!!!

perfect UP cabin
This was a great cabin for our small family. If I could suggest any improvements, it would be regarding the noisy stairs. With everyone sleeping upstairs, when one person woke up and went down stairs, everyone else was awake. Also the water had a very sulfur smell the entire week were there.FRESHWATER RESPONSE: Thank you for the feedback regarding the staircase and the water smell. We will definitely see what we can do to improve both of those concerns. We hope to have you back again in the near future!Sincerely,Cara

great location, great fishing but.........
First of all the location and the lake was just great! The upstairs windows on the lake side you could not open to get a great breeze through there so we had to run the fans constantly to try and keep the upstairs cool. The windows could use a good cleaning as well as the outdoor furniture and umbrella on the outside deck. Well water definitely had an odor, your cleaners should pay particular attention to the floor behind the bathroom door, and lots of cob webs all around. I would recommend you place non skid strips on the stairs. Still had a great time weather was remarkable, cleaners just need to pay a little more attention to the details.FRESHWATER RESPONSE: Thank you for your feedback. I'm so glad to hear you had a great fishing experience and wonderful weather. I love the idea of the non-skid strips on the stairs. Great idea! I'm sorry that the crank on the upstairs window would not open. It has been an uphill battle to get the proper crank in that window. We have tried a permanent solution for that window multiple times, and it looks like we need to reevaluate it again. You are correct, a the cool breeze off of East Lake would be ideal. Due to your feedback, we have retrained our cleaner to pay attention to the details that were missed. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
