Sitting on large open land, Trailside Retreat welcomes bike-riders, walkers, explorers, and hikers! Less than a minute walk to the famous Rails-to-Trails trailway which stretches for 2300 miles across our great state, guests will enjoy discovering new avenues.

Trailside Retreat is a 3 bedroom/1 bathroom home which can sleep up to 6 people comfortably. A fully- equipped kitchen with double-convection oven and propane grill allows guests to create delectable dishes for family and friends.  

A large backyard, firepit, ping pong table, creek, and official horseshoe pits help make Trailside Retreat an enjoyable space. In addition, Mullet Lake is just a few minutes walk away. Launch your boat nearby at the DNR site and relax on the water for the evening. No worries, there is a plenty of parking at Trailside Retreat for trailers and trucks.

Sitting on the front porch, you will see and hear Highway 27 just a couple hundred feet away. But make no mistake, as the home faces east, the  sunrise is stunning among the trees.  
 
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Air Conditioning: No air conditioning. There are ceiling fans in the family room, bedrooms 2 and 3. There are 2 oscillating fans for guests to use as well.  

ATV's: Black Mountain area 18 miles away. Guests area able park a trailer and a truck at the home, but there is no ATV driving on property.

Animals: White-tailed deer, squirrels, variety of birds.

Bathroom: Full Bathroom with tub and shower


Beach/Swimming: It is a ½ mile away down the trail. The beach is a small grassy township beach which is 25 ft wide (you can put a kayak in the water there). It is more like a boat access feel. You can access the water or sit around by the water, but it is not a typical sandy beach area. Guests are encouraged to go to Aloha State Park, which is about 10 miles away,  has a nice public beach area (sandy, picnic tables, playground, volleyball, etc.). The Gordan Turner Park, in Cheboygan is right on Lake Huron, which is 8 ½ miles away with a pleasant family atmosphere.

Boat Launch: DNR Boat Launch/Mullet Lake Marina which give you access to Mullet Lake is about a mile and a half up the road. So bring your boat and trailer and feel comfortable parking it right outside the front door!

Bowling: Spare Time Lanes is just a mile and a half up the road, which offers open bowling and has a sports bar to enjoy.

Bugs: Typical Michigan bugs! There are May-flies that run their cycle early summer.

Cell phone service: Verizon is very good…

               * Tahquamenon Falls State Park: 2 hours (100 miles) 
               * Mackinac Bridge: 30 minutes away ( 23 miles)

Fireplace: There is no usable fireplace inside.

Fire-pit: Yes! Wood is provided

Fishing: Some common fish you will see in the nearby Mullet Lake are walleye, musky, bluegill, bullhead, pike, sunfish, rainbow trout, and perch.  Please be sure to bring your own poles as there are none at this property. Also, in order to fish in Michigan lakes, one is required to hold a fishing license. Click here to purchase your fishing license online.

Grill: Propane Grill. Propane provided.

Grocery Store: Half-mile down the road is the Mullet General Store (lotto, pizza, liquor). There is also a Super Walmart in town which is 6 ½ miles away.

Handicap Friendly: Yes! Let us explain what we mean by handicap friendly…there is a zero-2 step entry into this home, and it is one level (a ranch-style home). The bathrooms and hallways are not up to official handicap standards and do not come equipped with special apparatus to help those in need.

Horseshoe Pit: Regulation horseshoe pits. All the playing goodies are there as well.  

Internet: There is no wi-fi.

Linens: Yes, we provide your sheets and linens. Just like a hotel, the beds will be made for you upon arrival. If you are fussy about the thread count of your sheets, just let me know, and I’ll make sure we leave a bed open for your sheets. We have just the basic sheets, pillows, pillow cases and bath towels.

Parking: There is a 2 car attached garage for guests to use. There is a lot of parking space, so bring your trailers or trucks; you will fit just fine.  

Pets: No pets are allowed on the property.  

Privacy: Neighbor's house is in view on North end, but the foliage creates a nice barrier.

Seniors: Come one, come all! This space is great for those over 60. Sometimes when renting a home, you are never too sure about the terrain: is the home on top of a hill, is parking on a steep slope, are there 100 steps to the beach or the unit, etc. This home gets the FVR approval for the young at heart!

Snowmobiles:  A person (resident and nonresident) that operates a snowmobile in Michigan is required to purchase a snowmobile trail permit. The trail permit enables snowmobilers to ride state-designated trails and thousands more miles of public roads and on public lands (where authorized). It is valid for one year, which begins Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30 of the following year. State-designated trails are open Dec. 1-March 31 and grooming occurs when there is enough snow on the ground. Space:  Ground-floor.

Televisions: 2 Televisions (1 in family room and 1 in bedroom #3 -full size bed). Both do not have cable, they just have local channels. Bedroom #3 has a dvd player attached.

Towels: Yes, we provide towels.  It's always good to bring extra though.

Washer and dryer:  Yes! Laundry soap is provided.

Wood: There is a huge wood shed for the firepit. Wheel barrow is available.
